Construction is underway at Manatee Lagoon – An FPL Eco-Discovery Center® to improve the facility before manatee season begins on Nov. 15. Plans include the installation of two large solar pavilions and more vegetation that will enhance the sustainability footprint and provide visitors a shaded picnic area. Guests will also notice improved brick walking paths and an expanded parking lot to accommodate more visitors.
The facility will continue to operate normally during the construction period. Completion is projected for fall 2018. The upgrades come as part of a plan to increase visitors and diversify program offerings at Manatee Lagoon to further educate the public about manatees and the surrounding Lake Worth Lagoon ecosystem. Manatee Lagoon has seen a steady increase in visitors since the facility’s opening in 2016 with just over 146,000 guests in 2017. This is a 25 percent increase compared to the first-year operations.
Please pardon our dust if you visit this summer during construction and we look forward to your return visit later in the season.
