Manatees like to stay warm. During the cool winter months, they gather around warm water sources to avoid cold temperatures. Florida Power & Light Company’s Riviera Beach Next Generation Clean Energy Center creates a flow of warm water that is just right for manatees.
In Florida, manatee season begins on Nov. 15 and runs through March 31. Manatees migrate as the winter months arrive and are known to congregate in the warm-water discharges of the FPL Riviera Beach Next Generation Clean Energy Center.
